On the Gulf of Mexico and
north of the Tampa Bay area, Hernando County the past decade has been one of the state's
fastest-growing counties. Major commercial growth has been in the western county
area, with the eastern regions remaining primarily rural and site of numerous retirement
villages. A considerable portion of the Withlacoochee State Forest is in the
county's eastern area, and the famous Weeki Wachee Spring attraction is along U.S. 19 to
the west. With such amenities, it is an exciting idea to think of this county being
